BalletPrep® for Adults

BalletPrep® for Adults

Ballet classes teach the what. BalletPrep teaches the how.

Most adult ballet classes teach recreational ballet: the choreography and the names of the movements, but not the mechanics underneath them.

Why adult training stalls, and why it isn't your fault

Children spend years developing alignment, turnout, foot articulation, coordination and postural strength before attempting a true barre. Adults are expected to start straight away with pliés, tendus and even pirouettes. The result is mimicry instead of mastery, and effort without progress.

Why corrections aren't enough

Most teachers learned as children, instinctively, and don't remember how they acquired the foundations. Corrections like “deepen your plié” or “don't sit in your hip” skip everything that needs to be in place first. Corrections should be reminders, not new information to absorb mid-exercise in one of the most complex art forms in the world.

Keep your regular class

BalletPrep is supplemental training, not a replacement. It teaches the how to your mind, with clear breakdowns of each movement, and to your body, with exercises that build the right muscles and neuromuscular connections. Beginners start the right way, progressing as academy students do. Experienced dancers go back to class knowing exactly how to perform each movement.

It was also designed for late starters and dancers left behind in crowded classes: serious training, explained clearly, without the years of childhood conditioning traditional programmes assume.

Core concepts of the method

The Technical Foundation
A five-point alignment and form checklist that no movement should be performed without.

The Pillar
The real mechanics behind balance, stability and weight shifts, so balance becomes reliable.
Induced Resistance
The key to executing movements properly and building the right musculature.
The Pendulum
Overwrites ingrained postural habits by exaggerating alignment the opposite way, so the body finds its true centre.
“Adults who want to learn ballet usually get to learn the what but not the how. I designed the BalletPrep method to fill that gap.”C.S. Shabsis, BalletPrep Method: An Introduction
